About the Trainer:
Ruth Hogan Poulsen is committed to personalizing the dressage experience for each horse and rider. She is the owner of Poulsen Dressage LLC, a full service team dedicated to equestrians and their horses. Based out of Plainfield, Vermont from May to October, Ruth travels south to Wellington, Florida in November to participate in the winter equestrian show season.

Ruth’s knowledge and personalized approach to the training of both horse and rider has been the cornerstone of her success on the U.S. dressage scene. Through early opportunities in the FEI ring aboard “difficult” horses she found the need to apply an individualized approach to the horses she trained and showed. From this foundation she began to apply dynamic training for riders as well.

Ruth’s customized training plans focus on maintaining normalcy, integrity and individuality for horses and riders. The results of her training philosophy are a success in the show arena and can be seen in the loyalty of her long-time clients.

Actively involved in 4-H and Pony Club, Ruth developed a strong foundation in horsemanship from an early age. From there Ruth evented, competed in equitation, and rode for her Intercollegiate Team; as UVM Team Captain she led her team to victory at the 1988 Intercollegiate National Show Jumping Championships. Then, along with two teammates, represented the US in Intercollegiate competitions in Europe.

Migrating toward dressage after her college career, Ruth chose to pursue a professional career as a rider and trainer. In 1992 she experienced the European dressage world with coach and mentor Jane Savoie. By the late 1990’s she had begun training independently, with her first major FEI success earned aboard Elizabeth Ritz’s Aristocrat in 1998.
